MCTC wrapped up a successful 2014 season and celebrate two of their alumni will be attending Division 1 universities on scholarship this fall: Bria Saunders (Rutgers – Track) and Krysten Mayers (Field Hockey – Cornell)
MAJOR ACCOMPLISHIMENTS
We have just completed another successful regular season as several of our athletes have qualified and competed at the AAU Junior Olympic Championships in Des Moines, Iowa and the USAT&F Junior Olympic Championships in Humble, Texas . On our road to what is commonly referred to as “The J.O.s” we have set state and regional meet records and have continued to build name recognition in the northeast as a club with athletes of exceptional talent and outstanding character.
Among our accomplishments of note this season is the fact that five Morris County Track Club athletes won eight medals at the USATF Region 2 Junior Olympic Outdoor Track And Field Championship Meet in Galloway, New Jersey.
Nana Agyemang of Parsippany took first place in the 11-12 Year-Old Boys Division Long Jump setting a meet record with a jump of 5.64 meters. Agyemang also placed first in the 100 meters (12.52) and placed first in the 200 meters (25.42).
Matias Pellegrino of Denville took first place in the 13-14 Year-Old Boys Division Long Jump setting a personal best jump of 6.12 meters. Pellegrino placed second in the Triple Jump (11.56 meters).
Danya Spoor of New Vernon placed second in the Girls 8 & Under 400 meters (1:15.88). Elorm Akasreku of Landing placed third in the Boys 15-16 Long Jump with a jump of 6.12 meters. Rawle James Workman placed fourth in the 11-12 Year-Old Boys Division Long Jump (4.47 meters).
As a result of their placement at the Regional meet, each of these athletes has qualified to compete in the USATF Junior Olympic Championship Meet in Humble, Texas.
MCTC was equally successful at the AAU Region 1 Qualifier in Lowell, Massachusetts earlier this month. Bayliss Simon of Morristown, a Silver medalist in the long jump (10 Year Old Girls Long Jump), Connor Cooper of Hopatcong, Gold medalist in the Long Jump (11 Year Old Boys Long Jump, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash), Rawle James Workman, Bronze medalist in the long jump (11 Year Old Boys Long Jump, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash), Noah Cooper of Hopatcong (8 and Under Boys Long Jump), Avery Brown of Chatham (14 Year Old Boys 400 meter dash), Colin Logsdon of Chatham, Gold medalist (14 Year Old Boys 3000 meter Run) and Elorm Akasreku of Landing, Gold medalist in the Long Jump (15-16 Year Old Boys Long Jump and 100 meter dash) all qualified to compete in the AAU Junior Olympic Championship meet in Des Moines, Iowa.
RESULTS: Turner Stadium, Houston, Texas, July 21 through July 27, 2014– Matias Pellegrino of Denville took first place in the Long Jump 13-14 Year-Old Boys Division with a jump of 6.09 meters. Pellegrino also took first place in the Triple Jump 13-14 Year Old Boys Division with a jump of 12.09 meters. As the Double Gold Medal Winner Matias received the honor of being named as an All American Athlete in both events. Pellegrino is ranked Fifth in the nation in Long Jump and Second in the Nation in Triple Jump by the Elite Youth National Ranking System.
Turner Stadium, Houston, Texas, July 21 through July 27, 2014– Nana Agyemang of Parisppany took first place in the Long Jump 11-12 Year-Old Boys Division with a jump of 5.71 meters. As the Gold Medal Winner Nana received the honor of being named as an All American Athlete for 2014. Agyemang also competed in the 100 meter dash preliminary round posting a time of 12.65 and the 200 meter dash advancing to the semi-finals posting a time of 26.02. Agyemang in ranked Number One in the nation in Long Jump by the Elite Youth National Ranking System.
RESULTS Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, July 25 through August 2, 2014– MCTC competed well at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
